Are face templates anonymous?

No. Templates are derived from biometric characteristics and can remain linkable to a person. Their exact legal classification varies, but they require strong purpose, access, retention and security controls.

Should raw images be stored?

Only when a defined purpose requires them. Many workflows can process transiently and retain a decision record or template instead; every retained artifact needs a period and deletion path.

Can consent authorize every facial-recognition use?

No. Consent must be valid for the context and jurisdiction, and power imbalance may make it unsuitable. Teams also need necessity, proportionality, transparency and technical controls.

What belongs in a vendor contract?

Specify purpose, data location, subprocessors, security, deletion, model-change notice, incident duties, audit evidence, training restrictions, portability, suspension and exit assistance.

How should biometric data be deleted?

Automate deletion across primary stores, queues, replicas and backups, manage narrowly scoped holds, and retain evidence that the job succeeded without retaining the biometric itself.

What is the most sensitive administrative action?

Gallery changes, threshold changes, bulk export and disabling safeguards are all high risk. Protect them with strong authentication, least privilege, logging and dual approval.

Does encryption make a deployment privacy-safe?

No. Encryption reduces disclosure risk but does not address unnecessary collection, invalid purpose, unfair errors, excessive retention, covert use or harmful downstream decisions.
