What is a good first machine-learning project?

Choose a bounded tabular classification or regression problem with a clear label, repeated examples, a named user and a measurable action.

How much data does a beginner need?

There is no universal number. Start with enough representative examples to create meaningful train and evaluation splits, including the important error cases.

Should beginners start with neural networks?

Usually not. Linear and tree-based baselines make data, metrics and errors easier to understand and may solve the problem adequately.

Why split data before exploration?

A protected test set provides a less biased estimate of generalization. Repeatedly using it to make choices leaks evaluation information into development.

What should be saved with a trained model?

Save preprocessing, schema, model, threshold, versions, metrics, limitations and environment so inference and review are reproducible.

The model produces live predictions without controlling the real decision, allowing teams to compare behavior and operational constraints more safely.

When is a beginner project complete?

It is complete when the result, code, data assumptions, evaluation and limitations are reproducible and the team can explain whether deployment is justified.
